Maximum revenue is the maximum turnover your business can earn in a financial year.

Your annual maximum revenue is set by the QBCC based on your financial situation to ensure you can continually pay wages, suppliers, subcontractors and service debts, and cover any other costs you may incur during the operations of your business.

You can exceed your Maximum Revenue by up to 10% without obtaining prior approval from us.

If you are going to exceed your Maximum Revenue by more than 10%, you must first provide us with a new financial declaration or MFR report that supports the increase.

You need a licence to do commercial building work, and most QBCC licence classes allow for both domestic and commercial work.

Understand when you need a licence as a subcontractor.

Licensing and developers

Developers and licensed contractors entering into contracts for commercial work don’t need to hold the relevant licence, as long as they engage an appropriately licensed contractor to perform the building work.

You can hold more than one licence class or licence type.

Applying for an additional licence is similar to applying for your original QBCC licence. You must provide the correct information and meet the current requirements.

You will need to provide documentation for any eligibility requirements that vary from your existing licence.

You will need to pay an application fee. However, depending on the type of licence you are applying for, you may not need to pay an additional annual licence fee. Licence fees will apply if you are increasing your maximum revenue category (relevant to contractor-type licences).

Check the application form for each available licence for more information about exact fees and requirements.

Company licences

If you are expanding your scope of works as a company, you will need to ensure that the relevant licence is held by both the:

  • nominee
  • company.
