The Queensland Building and Construction Commission’s (QBCC) new Home Owner Hub offers straightforward, step-by-step guidance to help Queenslanders make informed decisions, avoid common pitfalls, and feel more confident in managing their projects.
Accessible through a refreshed landing page on the QBCC website, the Home Owner Hub uses plain language and a clear structure to guide users through a five-step building and renovation process.
New QBCC CEO and Commissioner, Angelo Lambrinos, said the launch was an important step in delivering timely, accessible information for customers.
“Our customer research shows that many home owners only come to us when things have already gone wrong—when they’re facing a dispute or realising they’ve missed a crucial step,” Mr Lambrinos said.
“The Home Owner Hub is designed to shift that pattern by supporting home owners early in their journey. It highlights simple, preventative steps, like using a licensed contractor, not paying more than they are legally required to for deposits, and having a contract in place, that can help avoid problems before they arise.”
Mr Lambrinos said while the hub does include information about the safeguards available if things don’t go to plan (like the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme), its primary focus was on prevention.
The hub was developed to better address the distinct needs of the QBCC website’s two key audiences—home owners and licensees.
“This launch reflects our commitment to improving the QBCC’s digital services and delivering a better experience for our customers,” Mr Lambrinos said.
“I’m focused on building a more customer-centric QBCC, and the Home Owner Hub is a commonsense step toward making it easier for people to get things right from the start.”
