You’ve nearly reached the finish line, but there are a few important steps you need to complete before your engagement with the contractor is officially completed.

It is essential that you are familiar with your obligations during this final phase to ensure the handover process is as seamless as possible, particularly before you part ways with your contractor.

Practical completion inspection

Practical completion means your home is mostly finished and ready for use. You’ll do a final inspection with your builder to list any minor defects, which they must fix within a reasonable timeframe.

Handover is when your builder officially hands over the completed, livable home. You’ll receive keys (if applicable), certification documents, and warranties. Ensure all inspections are certified and documents provided before final payment.
