Apply for a plumbing and drainage licence

What licence should I apply for?

  • If you have completed at least 1 year's practical* plumbing or drainage experience after completion of the relevant quaification, you can apply for a plumbers and/or drainers licence.
  • If you have not completed at least 1 year's practical plumbing and or drainage experience after completion of the relevant quaification, we may issue you with a provisional licence. 
  • If you hold a Plumbing and or Drainers licence, and have completed the required units from Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services and can meet the financial requirements, you can apply for a plumbing and drainage contractor or nominee supervisor licence.

*practical plumbing experience does not include work that is unlicensed.

How to apply for a plumber's and/or drainer's licence

If you have completed your relevant qualification and don't have the required practical experience, complete Form 21 Application for plumbing occupational licence and/or endorsement (PDF).

If you have completed your relevant qualification and have at least one year's practical experience as a plumber and/or drainer, complete the following:

How to apply for a trade contractor or nominee supervisor licence

As of 1 April 2016, applicants for trade contractor or nominee supervisor licences must demonstrate that they have completed the required units from the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
